religion & politics.

Hoo boy.

I think that I need to address this, before anyone else bothers me or thinks less of me about it.

Allow me to list every single thing I have said about religion and politics in Across the Ocean.

"

After my whining about love, I'm not sure what else to say. God? Are you religious? If so, I'm sorry but, no offense to you, I think that worship is a little overrated. Sure, I'd like to believe there's someone out there watching over us, but I find it highly unlikely. My biggest fear is that God actually does it exist, he just doesn't care too much for us anymore.

President Bush stinks. "

"

Don't get me started on God. We're strictly Easter/Christmas Christians, but since moving out on my own I don't even do that much. I suppose I share the same views as you. And, you bring up an excellent and terrifying point with that.

Bush does suck. You poor American. Come to England? Hahaha. "

GUYS.
WHAT IS THAT. LIKE...  ONE 3254786035th OF THE STORY??

Over these past few weeks I've had several new readers telling me that Bush bashing is wrong, I shouldn't be doing it, he's not that bad of a president. (err...)

I did not mean to offend anyone.

I did not mean to sound like an ignorant prick, for mentiong Bush in 6 words out of 36,187.

If I caused one of you to think less of me, or to decide to mention it in a review, because it clearly is such a big deal, I am sorry.

I think you all should be more chill. Really now. Don't you think that the really important stuff is the freaking story? This story is not about politics. This story is not about religion.

This story is about sending a message in a bottle and meeting a ridiculously good looking englishman, since that NEVER happens, but Bush and religion are bashed every day.

I'm Canadian. I don't care about your president, I'm also not the biggest fan of religion, which is why I don't choose to go around preaching the bad word all the time. But, I thought that since Bella was pouring her heart and soul into this letter for a stranger, she'd add a few personal opinions, which, really, is infinitely more important than that.

No one's really said anything to me abot religion, aside from congratulating me for having the guts to mention two touchy subjects.

I don't see it as that big of a deal.
I understand where you're coming from.
If someone decided to bash Stephen Harper. No wait, I don't like him. If someone decided to bash Jean Chretien, I would be just as angry, but if it didn't mean anything to the story, aside from being a little side note of conversational what have you, I'd look over it.

Holy
Jeez.

I'm sorry if I sound like an angry whiny half wit author, but I need to get this off my chest.

The point is, it is not an essential part of the story.
The point is it's 6 freaking words out of 36 THOUSAND 187.
Why not concentrate on how bad my writing is for the chapters I rush, and concentrate on the actual plotline itself, okay?

I'm sorry.
Again.
But I feel better now.

Comments

I'm sorry, I laughed.

Anyway. It's unfortunate that you've attracted the attention of the.. let's say, 'zealous' supporters of both Christianity and Bush. I can understand the first, but the second one is pretty dumb. I suppose he hasn't failed completely, but America is overdue to elect a competent president.

Besides, I agree with how Bella came across about God. Sure, he could be there, but he hasn't done a terrible lot lately.

The thing is that these things barely affect your story at all. These people are just nitpicking; you can't tailor to everyone's needs.

Also, I need to check out Across the Ocean now kthnx.

My biggest fear is that God actually does it exist

Perhaps remove the "it"? Don't worry about being angry, you have your right to get annoyed that those reviewers picked out a couple of irrelevant things and complained about them; it being in the First Amendment and all, I think.
I don't care that you laugh. People are stupid and make me want to laugh in their faces, but i get so riled up easily.

Manz.

oops. that it isn't supposed to be there. it should be doesn't. HAH.
my bad.

God is a silly fellow.
Oh boy...people need a life. I feel horrible that you were treated in such away...way to go Americans...(I wish I were German...basically am...but thats beside the point)

I laughed at the point in the story where she hates Bush...I feel the same way and sadly I have no hope for a better president this coming election.

The religion thing needs to cool down. I really wish people would just THINK FOR THEMSELVES! Very religious people scare me...honestly, you live life by a BOOK! Don't get me wrong, the Bible is great literature, but I could never do that to myself. I believe that there is some kind of being out there, but I don't care if other people think it or not...it should not matter, as I would say in german "ES IST EGAL!" GAH. Now I am on a rant...lol.

I HATE politics, I HATE people who think they know everything about the world and I HATE people who just want to nitpick dumbass things!

BTW: I just read your updated chapter (I am Captain Uschi over on FF.net) and I just am so excited about the baby and a WEDDING! That whole chapter had me smiling.

You are a fantastic writer <3

Uschi
I think that the bible is the greatest literary work there is. You know, maybe a few too many characters, but I really think it's FICTION.

I'd actually rather go by something like the DaVinci Code than that hunk of leather and gold plated pages.

I think people need to realise that we live in a world (mostly) of free speech. At least, our two nations are. Not everyone is going to like what someone else says. Bashing Bush is like ...loving Jacob or something.

"Don't do that. Jacob stinks. I'd appreciate it if you DIDN'T love him"

I'm sorry, I can't please everyone, get on with the story.

I need someting to punch...
Weelll. That was rather gutsy and people have a knack for being hyper sensitive about minute details. Because they're ridiculous. Although I wouldn't have thought that would cause such a response. I mean, it's Bella's opinion, isn't it?
BUT. Bush is a complete dumbass and a terrible terrible terrible president. It's not an opinion. It is a fact. Just saying.

are you serious? people actually flipped out? wow that's crazy. well i think you are a great writer and if people can't see that because of your political and religious views, then they're idiots!
:) Savannah

REWIND

I just re-read this little rant XD

Ooh gosh I still completely agree with you. I think that living your life based on the bible is kind of... well it's an awesome STORY. I'd rather live my life based on...I dunno....wheel of time...or Twilight...than the bible.

But seriously guys, it has to be fiction. And even if you choose to live your life based on a book, at least REALIZE that it's fiction...

Now I'm all worked up...byee~!

(Anonymous)

Neh, well, I agree on your standpoint. I hate Bush. I'm an American, I'm a Democrat, and I'm excitedly waiting for Obama to dethrone him. If McCain wins, I think I might cut off a finger. After all Bush's done...I really can't imagine why people would actually...like him.
I'm an atheist, I don't care about God, and I stare incredulously at people who've memorized the Bible. Seriously, it's a book, written by WHO KNOWS WHO!
But my opinions are not the point here. Author's weave their beliefs into their books all the time. SM, thankfully, refrained from doing that, but JKR with all her love, and God and limbo between reality and heaven stuff was an obvious Christian..or Catholic..I don't know the difference. Oh..the Pope, right? ANYWAY.
It's not a crime to address your beliefs in written work. It's a free country. Bill of Rights, Amendment 1.
People just have to deal with it.
